"MUSIC TIP'S BY MISS G FROM LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC"

Did you know?
In 4/4 timing you can have four quarter notes, eight, eighth notes, sixteen, sixteenth notes and thirty two, thirty second notes. The thirty second notes are played very, very fast, "Presto!"
I'm Miss G with Little House of music and this is how I teach my students to understand timing, it's easy for them when money is involved!
The top 4 means 4 beats to a measure and the bottom four means that a quarter note receives one beat. It's a fraction, if you take the top four away and put a one in it's place it is one fourth, and one fourth of a dollar is a quarter or .25 cents. Therefore a half note would get 2 beats or .50 cents, a dotted half note would receive 3 beats or .75 cents and the whole note would get all four beats or the whole $1.00. Very interesting when you think about how much math is in music.
No wonder music helps children with their formal education with math skills!
