"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC WITH MUSIC HISTORY FOR THIS DATE!"

Miss G with Little House of Music with music history on this day, September 30Th.

1791-MOZART'S OPERA "MAGIC FLUTE" PREMIERED IN VIENNA.
1950-RADIO'S GRAND OLE OPRY" WAS BROADCASTED ON TV FOR THE FIRST TIME.
1977-RINGO RELEASES, "RINGO THE 4TH" ALBUM.

I wish I could have been at Mozart's opening night and heard the opera, "Magic Flute!"

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC---WHICH CHORD YOU DO LIKE THE BEST?"

Miss G with Little House of Music would like to know which chord you like the best?
A C Major Chord---C-E-G or a c minor chord---c-e flat-g. C Major is pictured on the left and c minor on the right.
When you are playing a C Major Chord in root position which means the name of the chord is all at the bottom, all you have to do is flat your middle note and you are playing a c minor chord. A flat means to play the next key to your left. Flat's so down!
Take notice that a C Major Chord is capital letters. But the c minor chord is lower case letters.
All Major Chords sound like a sunny day, all minor chords sound like a cloudy day! Very interesting isn't it?
I have all of my students play both chords and tell me which chord they like the sound of the best.
Although I play all chords I like the minor chord sound the best. I love classical music and so I'm sure that's why I like the minor sound the best. Most of all classical music is written in the harmonic minor key.
Let me know which one you like the best. This is not a test, just something to do for fun!
Enjoy, Miss G Little House of Music

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC WITH A MUSIC TIP"

Miss G with Little House of Music has a music tip for all you parents out there.
Every time your student goes to the left on the piano or goes down on the piano with either hand they are playing the musical alphabet backward. This is difficult for many music students so I came up with this little saying that rhymes so to make it easier for students to learn the musical alphabet going backward.
"ABCDEFG ONLY SEVEN NOTES YOU SEE, GFEDCBA BACKWARD NOTES SOUND SILLY TO SAY!
I even have my students walk on the letters forward and backward which aids them in learning and understanding the musical alphabet forward and backward. It's fun, give it a try!

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC"

Miss G with Little House of Music has learned something new today! I get a newsletter from a local produce market and today they added several new market items.
JICAMA also known as a Mexican potato is a popular vegetable in Mexico. It is a large bulbous root with thick brown skin and crunchy white flesh. It's sweet nutty taste is good both raw and cooked. Once cooked it retains its crisp water chestnut like texture and flavor.
I think I'll have to try one of these. I'm always up for a new food flavor!
Let me know if you've heard of these and if you like them.

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC---COULD TODAY BE ANOTHER "BLACK" FRIDAY?"

Miss G with Little House of Music found a very interesting article about today in history!
I certainly hope this is not going to be another "Black Friday!"
On this date in 1869, the stock market began a 20% nosedive (the equivalent of a 2,200 point drop in today's Dow after an attempt by several investors, including President Grant's brother-in-law, to corner the gold market triggered a sell off of $4Million in U.S. Treasury bullion in order to stabilize the precious metal's price.

They say history repeats itself. I certainly hope it doesn't this time! I wonder if President Bush is aware of what happened in 1869 on this date. I'm hoping that he is and he gets us out of this mess for all of the U.S. citizens and our country. How could they allow this to happen anyway. "GREED!" They managed to get out of the mess in 1869, why can't we?
PLEASE, NOT ANOTHER BLACK FRIDAY!
I want a bumper sticker that says, I didn't vote for Bush!!!

"JEWELRY FOR JOY" MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC'S FAVORITE JEWELRY!"

Miss G with Little House of Music would like all her readers to go to: http://web.me.com/eshivamber also go to: http://www.invisiblechildren.com/
and see the story of the children in Uganda. They need your help, there you can join the movement to help the children. I'm getting a T-shirt that says, Invisible Children.
Visit the site (IT'S SOON CHRISTMAS) and see all the beautiful jewelry my two sister students, Elise and Sara are making for the "Invisible Children Organization." It's a win, win purchase. All the proceeds from the sale of the jewelry go to help the children in Uganda. The girls even buy all the beads and supplies to make the jewelry with their own money and they donate all the money, they don't even keep any money from their sales for their supplies.
These children in Uganda have nothing, they couldn't even buy a banana if they had the money which they don't. Elise and Sara have told me that it is not safe there and we should help!
I'm so proud of these two girls, why can't everyone in the world help each other? Elise and Sara, you get 5,000 high fives from Miss G.
The girls even make special orders and special colors! They have turned into great Craftswomen! I always have some of their jewelry for sale here at Little House of Music to help them and to help the children in Uganda. You can also go to: emonkey14@mac.com to place special orders. When you start your Christmas shopping this year, start by helping out the children in Uganda. As I said, it's a win, win purchase.
Thanks for helping out the girls and the children in Uganda!

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC---THIS IS SO CUTE!"

Miss G with Little House of Music has a really funny and cute story to tell you!
The story is about my grandson, Braden and his Mother Sue Ann my daughter in the picture.
Sue Ann picked Braden up at school after his second day in first grade. When they got home Sue Ann asked him if he had homework. Braden said, "Yes!" Sue Ann said, "let's get it done so you can play!" Braden said, "No!" He then told Sue Ann that his teacher said, "Don't forget to do your homework tonight." Well, Braden takes everything literally and he told his Mother that it wasn't night yet so he couldn't do his homework until it was dark! When his Dad got home from work Sue Ann told him about the dilemma and so Rusty his Dad had a 30 minute conversation with Braden trying his best to get him to do his homework then because when it's dark outside it's bed time. Well, that didn't work either!!!
Braden did do his homework as his teacher ordered at night! The next day my daughter Sue Ann e-mailed the teacher and ask him please to rephrase the homework order by saying, do your homework the minute you get home from school. The teacher did and now Braden is doing his homework right after school! Isn't that a cute story? You just never know how important it is to weigh your words to a child!!! I think we all should be more careful how and what we say to children!

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC---OUR KIDS ARE SO SMART!"

Miss G here with Little House of Music. During my granddaughters visit to Florida this summer, Miss Darrien was campaigning! She insisted on holding up this sign for many pictures I took of her. As they say, "out of the mouth of babes!" Maybe she knows something we don't know! She isn't even old enough to vote!!!
You go Darrien, who knows, maybe someday you'll be in the White House!
Grammy loves you!

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC'S NEWEST "STAR" MR. KAI"

Miss G with Little House of Music would like to introduce our "STAR" Mr. Kai. You can just tell by the pictures he is a lot of fun to coach plus isn't he precious?
Kai is seven and in the second grade. What a quick learner he is, yesterday he passed his very first "Theory" quiz with flying colors.
Other than becoming a pianist, Kai plays basketball and he is really into running! He told me he loves to run and he loves learning the piano! I guess we'll either see him running at the Olympics or playing the piano at Carnegie Hall on a future date!
Kai just recently started classes at the Henegar Center. He is a member of "Stage One Stars!" Kai is also learning acting. Kai is certainly not shy so I do expect to see him become a "Star" in every thing he chooses to do in his life.
Welcome to the Little House of Music family Kai, we are happy to have you in our musical family!
Enjoy the pictures, what a "Ham!"
Kai, I send you 5,000 hugs!

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC WITH A MUSIC LESSON!"

Miss G with Little House of Music with a music tip!
Did you know that five flats is the same as seven sharps and five sharps is the same as seven flats?
When you play the C sharp scale you are also playing the D flat scale and when you are playing the C flat scale you are also playing the B sharp scale.
Very interesting! This make the circle of fifths come out perfectly! The piano keyboard is genius. If it never had been invented what would we do all day?

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC HITS THE YORK FAIR!"

Miss G here with Little House of Music. These pictures are of the big "York Fair" in York, Pennsylvania. When I was a kid I'd count the days until the York Fair opened! I never dreamed I'd be back there again but my friend Jeanne insisted that we go, so off we went to the fair!
The fair food is wonderful. My favorite is warm waffles and ice cream! Why don't I make them here? Of course one wasn't enough for me. The only ride I would get on now is the John Deere mower! When I was a kid I'd ride every one at least twice! Jeanne and I ran into old friends we hadn't seen in many years and had a great time looking at everything and eating! I wouldn't mind going back again next year! I had forgotten just how much fun the fair was.

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC WOULD LIKE YOU TO MEET AUNT FAYE!"

Miss G with Little House of Music would like you all to meet Auntie Faye and my cat Patch.
A couple of years ago Aunt Faye came to visit us for three months. At that time she and Patch became real buddies! Patch had just had both of his hips removed and would be on Aunt Faye's lap all the time. Of course at that time my Patch didn't weigh 25 pounds! He's a big one isn't he?
My Aunt Faye and Uncle Henry were like my parents and would bring me to Florida every year. That's how I feel in love with Florida and moved here. When I was growing up in Pennsylvania we had a cabin in the woods and so did Aunt Faye and Uncle Henry. The minute I got up every morning I'd head for their cabin to play cards with my Auntie Faye. Aunt Faye would be drinking her morning coffee at 9:00am while we played cards.
Aunt Faye is a very big part of my life and I love her very much.
Enjoy the picture of Aunt Faye and my fat cat Patch!

Miss G with Little House of Music would like you to meet our grandchildren Niki on left and Rachel on the right!
They visited us this weekend from Jacksonville. The girls had a great time in my (Miss G's) prize basket. They rooted and rooted and laughed and had so much fun. I told them they could have whatever they wanted. I do know they were in the music room for a long time digging in the basket!
Niki is President of her school and was chosen to go to Harvard for two months this summer attending their computer seminar. A high school student who got the opportunity to go to Harvard for two months! YOU GO NIKI!

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC IS PROUD TO INTRODUCE OUR STUDENT OF THE WEEK FOR SEPTEMBER 19, 2008"

Meet Mr. Eamon with Little House of Music. He was last weeks student of the week. He earned a certificate, a presidential dollar, five picks from our prize basket and a Little House of Music T-shirt. YOU GO EAMON! Isn't he precious?
Eamon analyzes his music before he play the songs. He can tell you how many C's or E's or G's are in every song. Miss G has one smart pianist! I have never had a student do this before. His mind works in a magical way which I've never witnessed before in all my years of being a piano coach.
If Eamon could play the piano hours everyday we would definitely be a child prodigy on the piano. I am very proud of him and really enjoy his lessons. Keep up the good work Eamon, you are going to go to the top!
Hugs, Miss G Little House of Music

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC INTRODUCES SWEET CANDY!"

Miss G here with Little House of Music. Aren't these pictures just precious?
Left is Claire, middle is Sarah, right is Ryan.
This is how I teach middle C to my students. First of all, middle C's name is Sweet Candy and her bathtub is filled with candy!
At Little House of Music we first of all introduce the note middle C then the letter C that goes with her and then we add the hat! The hat is the winner! My students match the hat to the right note and right letter and they have learned how to read their first note, middle C, Sweet Candy. It's only because of the hat's that they learn how to read notes so fast! We have a hat that matches every note; remember our students learn music the "Fun Way!"
Next they learn the D note, Donna D and get to wear her hat!
Remember, we are teaching children as young as three years old!
Enjoy, Miss G Little House of Music

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC---MEET MY BEST FRIEND!"

Miss G with Little House of Music would like to introduce my best friend Jeanne to you. Jeanne and I grew up across the street from each other. Actually, I was born in the house across the street from where Jeanne lived. Have times ever changed! I was born in a house and not a hospital!
As you can see from the picture Jeanne is a Maryland "Terps" fan. That is where Jeanne graduated from college at the University of Maryland. The other picture is of Jeanne and her husband Ron. I Love you too brother Ron!
When Jeanne and I were younger we used to sit on the curb and wave to each other. I think we were around 15 years old when we were allowed to cross the street!!! We had a great little park near where we lived but of course it was unheard of for us to ever go to the park without a parent.
Although Jeanne still lives in Pennsylvania and I live in Florida there isn't a week that goes by that we don't talk at least once if not more!
Great friends are hard to come by and I'm so lucky to have my Jeanne in my life. Jeanne and I are like sisters.
I love you Jeanne and "Go Terps!'

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC WITH THE MAP OF THE CENTURY!"

This is Miss G with Little House of Music and I just recently went back to my hometown, York, PA.
While I was there I visited my friends and relatives. My Aunt Jane and Uncle Jack moved to an assistance living home and I ask my cousin, Susan "LEE" to give me directions to her parents new home because I wanted to visit them. I should have known better and used map quest!!!
Could any of you find out how to get to anywhere with this map??? YOU GO SUSAN "LEE!" The picture on the right is of my cousin in her Montana shirt which she got while in Montana. I wonder how she found her way there and home?
Of course I had to call her and get the directions! I did visit my Aunt and Uncle and we had a wonderful long chat. It was so good to see them again.
I think my "Cuz" should take a map drawing class!
I love you Susan "LEE!"

"MISS G WITH LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC WELCOMES LORE TO THE USA!"

I think everyone should wear a duck on their head at the Orlando airport when someone comes to visit the USA for the first time! This is Miss G with Little House of Music.
Lore and I had met on the Internet. This was a great meeting, not like some of the meetings on the Internet! Lore while in Belgium looked up what her name meant on Google and my song I wrote for my sister "Lore" that passed away came up on Google. Lore listened to the song and wrote to me and the rest is history. We are now best of friends and I have my Lore again. Isn't the Internet just wonderful if it's used the right way?
When "Lore" came to visit me (Miss G) from Belgium I told her when she got off of the plane she would recognize me. Lore sent me a picture of herself holding a duck like I have on my head! I told her I wanted one so she mailed me one. I asked my Hallie, my student who is not only a great pianist but a great artist to make me a sign and then I thought I'd take my duck along to the airport and put it on my head so Lore could not possibly miss me when she arrived!
I wish you could have seen the people looking at me and the funny comments at the airport. It was so much fun! My daughter Sue Ann who was with me said, "Mom, you are the only person in the world that would do this!"
Anyway, here came Lore walking off the plane and right into my arms! We had a great two week visit.
I Love you Lore and thanks again for the duck!

Francis Scott Key was an American Lawyer and Poet. The National Anthem of the United States of Americas words were set to a popular English drinking song! GO FIGURE!

Now you know the details of how and why our great national anthem was written!
