"MEET MR. MAX"

Mr. Max guards Little House of Music at night. His eyes light up at night and he can see everything that goes on! Max has "Gone Green!" His eyes are solar powered by the sun. Isn't he cute! He is a tree face. One more exciting item at the bridge that my students love.

"MR. LOUIS OUR MOST CREATIVE STUDENT"

Week after week Louis comes to his lessons with a new Broadway Hit Song!" Louis has the gift of music. Since he has learned theory his writing has become so much easier for him because he now knows what he is playing, what key he is in, how many sharps and flats. He has a brilliant mind and uses it when he writes songs.
Louis is writing the "Overture" to our Broadway Musical, "Lyric and Lore." He is also writing the script and other music with, Hallie, Madison and myself. He just has to wait to write the "Overture" because you can't write and "Overture" until all the songs are finished!
Louis is very active with his school when it comes to anything that involves music. Louis was also very kind and gave of his time every Saturday morning for an hour along with Miss Hallie and taught Little House of Music to the children at My Refuge, abused and neglected children. He is a fine young man with high values and even higher expectations for his musical career. He will do it, he will make it, music is everywhere inside of him. I keep telling him that he'll have his first Broadway show at the age of 24 and I'll be there to see it! New York City, here comes Louis!

"OUR "STAR" MISS SYDNEY"

Just look at this face, this marvelous face, isn't Miss Sydney a cutie-pie? Here are two pictures of her rehearsing for our "Songs of May" party. She is a natural in front of the camera! Sydney first took Little House of Music and now she is playing the piano at age five. I'm overwhelmed with her success. Every week she knows all of her songs and she is so proud of herself and can't wait to play the piano for me. Sydney is preforming the song "Calico Waltz" for our party. She is ready to go, she even has the her song memorized. Miss Hallie and I together taught Sydney Little House of Music in a group class and Miss Sydney keeps kidding me and says she wants to take lessons from Miss Hallie! If I knew she wasn't kidding me I'd have her change teachers! She is a delightful little girl and so much fun to teach, I really would miss her.

"MORE "STARS" GETTING READY FOR OUR SONGS OF MAY PARTY"

Our "STARS" here at Little House of Music couldn't be more ready to perform. I'm so proud of these three girls. I have been teaching Miss Megan on the left for at least four years now, Miss Megan not only excels at the piano she also excels in dancing with her buddy, Miss Breezy shown in the middle picture. Miss Breezy's two brothers have been taking piano lessons from me for 8 years. Breezy first took Little House of Music but decided she would rather be a dancer. Well, much to my surprise Breezy decided to get back into piano lessons and if her two brothers don't hurry, she will pass them by!
Pictured on the right is Miss Katie. Miss Katie has walked in the door for her lessons for five years with the biggest and brightest smile you've ever seen and then runs towards me and I get the biggest hug every week! Miss Katie is a very happy child and is a delight to teach. In all of the years I have taught Katie she has never been upset about anything, she is always pleasant and Katie is how every child in the world should be, HAPPY!
I wish you all could join us for our "Songs of May" party. We have GREAT kids, Good Kids and Precious Kids here at Little House of Music.

"WE RECYCLE MUSIC BOOKS!"

At Little House of Music we recycle music books. When one of our students has passed every song in their book and if they don't want to keep the book they give it to me and then I pass it on to another student. WE ARE HOPING TO SAVE MORE THAN JUST ONE TREE!!!
With the cost of music books it is a great idea that has worked great for us here at Little House of Music.
Wait until you hear this: When I started to teach piano lessons the series of books I liked to use were then $.75, now they are $6.95. Guess you now know how long I've been teaching piano lessons!

"LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC'S FIRST CONCERT"

Pictured is our flier from our very first "Little House of Music" concert. Not one bit of it was work, the children and I had so much fun getting ready for the concert. Mom's pitched in and helped with the wardrobe changes, Dad's sat for hours while we rehearsed. It was really a big deal for us here at "Little House of Music." We were so proud to have the songs and the "Stars" to perform. We even had to have one person to open and close the curtains! What a wonderful experience for all involved. It certainly was a great learning process for the children. Our main purpose for having the concert was to raise money for abused children, so the children were very eager to do everything they could to help the cause.
We did have a good turn out even though that was the year of the four hurricanes here in Florida and we did raise money for the abused children.
All in all, it turned out much better than I had ever dreamed. We had to miss about eight rehearsals because of the hurricanes, but our "STARS" were troopers and pulled it off beautifully. I wish you all could have been there to enjoy!

"DANCING FOUR O'CLOCKS TWO"

These two photos inspire me to write songs. I already have five new songs written for my next CD, "Dancing Four O'Clocks Two." This next Cd's cover are these pictures of my yellow four o'clocks that I grew in my yard. The first CD had purple four o'clocks. I was watching my yellow four o'clocks just yesterday and they were dancing with the wonderful breeze from our beautiful ocean. They were dancing fast, slow, sometimes spinning. When the breeze is making my four o'clocks dance fast I feel like that part of the music I'm writing should be louder, and when the breeze is going slowly than the music should be softer. In music loud means Forte, and soft means Piano. I can see my flowers dancing when I'm at my piano playing so writing songs come so easily for me. I just write songs along with the breeze! Maybe I should change the name of the next CD to, "Dancing Four O"Clocks Dance Back Yellow!"
You can purchase my first "Dancing Four O'Clocks" CD from my website: http://www.littlehouseofmusic.com, or by calling, 888-GFEDCBA, isn't that cute? The musical alphabet backward. That's me, Miss G, music should have been my middle name!

"Music is the art of combining sounds to express love and sounds of varying pitch to produce smiles."

"LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC AWARDS"

The first thing our students do when they enter the door for their lesson is to look at the Student of the Week Awards hanging on our bulletin board. Every week at Little House of Music we give out the "Student of the Week Award" to the student who received top honors for the past weeks piano performance, theory skills and scales. This contest runs from September 1st, until May 31st every year. The student who wins the Student of the Week award the most times during the year then wins the "Student of the Year Award" that we give out at "Our Songs of May Party."
Along with the Student of the Week Award the student who wins also gets five prizes out of our prize basket and a new Presidential gold coin dollar.
The Student of the Year gets a check for $50.00 to go on a shopping spree with me, Miss G to the store of their choice. To get "whatever" they want.
Giving out these awards has certainly given our students motivation to play the piano more and to get those theory books completed and studied for their theory test, and to play their scales 5,000 times a week!
Here at Little House of Music we do whatever it takes for our students to learn music and love music.
It's unbelievable how many "STARS" we have here at Little House of Music.

"GAMES, GAMES AND MORE GAMES ON OUR NEW WEBSITE"

Games, Games and More Games! Other than all the fun music games in the students Little House of Music fun music book, we will have a game for each lesson on our website. Example: Little House of Music Level One, Lesson One Music Game. Your student will be able to show off all of their wonderful musical skills and have fun while playing each game.
All the games will have Little Mr. Music Mouse in the Little House of Music pictured left, Mr. Chris the Music Clown, the center picture and Professor Piano pictured on the right. Professor Piano will be the one that tells your student if they are correct and when they won the game.
After your student wins all ten games in each level, let us know and your student will receive a gift from Little House of Music.
In all there will be 60 games for your student to play. Ten games for each level and there will be six levels for your students to learn without ever leaving their home.
I'm very proud to introduce these three wonderful members of our Little House of Music Family. They help to reinforce what your student has learned plus they are lots of fun, and that's what we are all about, Children learning music the fun way!
Stay Tuned! Game for level one lesson one will soon be ready to play!

"TWO OCTAVES OF KIDS" 16 LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC STARS!

I gave all my students better known as "The Recording Studio Kids" the same four notes in the right hand, and the same four notes in the left hand and I said to them, "Write a Song." Needless to say they all looked at me like I had lost my mind. Of course none of them could write a song. Well guess what? I ended up with 27 compositions written by my students and 16 (two octaves) are on our CD "Two Octaves of Kids!" The notes I gave them were in a minor key with three flats. Most of my students who wrote songs couldn't read the music they wrote! Of course I didn't tell them that! Most all of their songs turned out to be classical songs. The songs are wonderful and we'll soon have the composition book finished.
I sent the CD to the Grammys and we waited and waited to see if it made the ballot. It did and were the children ever excited. Can you imagine being seven years old and have a song on the ballot for a Grammy? You are a winner just my getting your CD on the ballot, the CD is heard by professionals and must qualify to be on the ballot. Everyone was so excited!
Not only did our Miss Hallie do all the artwork for our CD front and back covers and insert, plus CD cover she made it on the ballot all alone with her song "Fourth Tide" for best contemporary classical composition!
Keep in mind not one of my students could write a song! I'm so proud of them. Now I have some students who have written ten songs. Now they know they can write a song! Very Cool! Guess it's time to do "Two Octaves of Kids Two!" For more information on this CD and how to purchase it call Miss G at Little House of Music: 888-GFEDCBA or 888-433-3222.

"WHO WILL BE "THE STUDENT OF THE YEAR" AT LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC?"

Here is a picture of the 2007 "Students of the Year Award." Last year we had a three way tie. The award is a shopping spree with Miss G, that's me! They can go anywhere they want to shop and pick out their favorite prize for doing a great job all year. They really got me last year, three prizes!!!
On the left is Daniela, middle is Hallie and right is Jack. Daniela and Jack were only seven last year and they still won! My hats off to all the kids. How ever they play the piano, what ever they play on the piano is better than not playing the piano at all! The Student of the Year award is also for excelling in music theory not just piano performance. I wonder, just who will receive the award at "Our Songs of May Party" this year!
The student who wins the student of the week award the most during the year wins student of the year.
Good luck to you all.

"FLOWERS FOR MISS HALLIE"

I took these flowers to Miss Hallie on Sunday when she played out. They are all from my flower gardens. Some of them will root and she will be able to plant them in her new garden she is making.
Hallie and I have so much in common, now even flowers and gardening! We've already found every piece of beach glass and every shell at our beach so she needed a new hobby and flowers it is!
Don't forget to water them Miss Hallie!
Hugs,

"MISS HALLIE WITH HER STUDENT RACHEL"

Miss Rachel, age seven, sitting to the left of Miss Hallie is one of her many students. Rachel and her family came to hear Miss Hallie play out at her Sunday Brunch gig! What an wonderful example Miss Hallie is setting for her young students. Like I've said a million times, how can you ever expect or teach a student to play the piano for others if the teacher can't!
Miss Hallie's teaching is growing in heaps and bounds. She soon won't have any openings! You Go Hallie and You Go Rachel! It won't be long until Rachel is playing out somewhere, a few more levels at the piano and a little more age and away she'll go!
Love you both,
Miss G Little House of Music

"YOU DON'T NEED SUNFLOWER SEEDS TO GROW SUNFLOWERS!"

Hi, this is Miss G from Little House of Music. This sunflower was grown from bird seed, yes bird seed! Under the bird feeder I see little sunflowers coming up so I dig them up and move them to another place and "Voila" the little sunflower plant turns into a beautiful sunflower.
I gave a little sunflower plant to my daughter Sue Ann and she grew this one. Isn't it beautiful? She out did me, her's is much bigger and more beautiful than any I've ever grown! She must have inherited my "GREEN" thumb!
After the plant starts to look bad, we then take all the sunflower seeds from the plant and feed them to the birds. "RECYCLE!" Then we start all over again.
You don't need sunflower seeds to grow beautiful sunflowers, just feed the birds and it happens!

"LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC'S OWN MR. CHRIS THE MUSIC CLOWN"

Isn't he cute? Mr. Chris the Music Clown is a very important part of the "Little House of Music" educational music course. He adds that special touch to learn music the fun way!
There are games for children to play with Mr. Chris the Music Clown on our website and the children get to enjoy him in their "Fun" music book!
There is even a song about him, "Mr. Chris the Music Clown." His song is sung in a musical "Round." Introducing and teaching children what a musical "Round" is in music is aiding our students in ear training. We have our students listen closely to the two different sets of voices singing the same song, just starting at different times. "Ear Training" is a big part of Little House of Music. We just love it when a child's ears perk up!

"HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!"

Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May.
It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This Holiday commemorates United States men and women who have died in the military service for our "GREAT COUNTRY."
May you all have a wonderful three day weekend and remember our lost soldiers!

"TEQUILA AND SALT"

This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror where you could read it every day. You may not realize it, but is' 100% true!

There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.

At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.

A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

Every night, SOMEONE, thinks about you before they go to sleep.

You mean the world to someone.

You are special and unique.

Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

When you think the world has turned its back on you take another look.

Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

Good friends are like stars...You don't always see them, But you know they are always there.

I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here than a whole truck load when I'm gone.

Always remember...when life hands you Lemons, ask for Tequila and Salt and call me over!

"MISS G's BLOOMING AIRPLANT"

Other than music, the beach and birds my hobby is flowers, trees and shrubs of all kinds. I like to buy them when they need tender loving care. My most beautiful flowering plants were marked down in price and looked like they were dead when I purchased them. I get great satisfaction from taking a sick plant and nursing it back to beauty.
The picture is of a cluster of my air plants blooming, it's real name is Tillandsia a member of bromelaid family. I now have about 25 air plants, all different kinds, shapes and sizes and they all bloom from time to time.
An air plant needs no soil, moisture and nutrients are gathered from the air,(dust, decaying leaves and insect matter.)
Air plants are also known as Ball moss and Spanish moss.
I do soak mine in water every other week and mist them weekly. They really seem to like it here in Florida, guess they are just like me!
Enjoy!

"MY STAR BROTHERS, JUSTIN AND JACK"

I have been teaching these two brothers all of their lives! Aren't they precious? They are a real part of my family and the Little House of Music family. Both Justin and Jack have the "Gift" of music. I believe from what I hear that they have received it from their father side of the family.
These handsome boys both play baseball, soccer, basketball and the piano! See, it doesn't matter what else you do, you can do music too! Justin is on the left and our Jack is in the center.
Justin is playing "Hedwig's Theme" from a Harry Potter movie. He's got it and ready to play at the party. Jack is playing "Lean On Me." His little fingers fly over the piano keyboard. As usual they both will be "STARS" at the party.
I enjoy seeing them come through the door every week for their lessons. They are a pleasure to teach and I love them both very much. I bet over the years I have gotten at least one million hugs from these two pianist! YOU GO BOY!

"GO RED SOX'S"

Here at "Little House of Music" we are Red Sox's Fan's. We watch every game and root, root, root. My husband Paul is from Rhode Island and his father saw the Red Sox's win the World Series in the year "1918." Paul had to wait until 2004 to see his Red Sox's win the world series. What a night that was at our home! We have Red Sox's everything, flag's flying, teddy bears, just to name a few!
In 2004 the Boston newspaper had a full page, all red with blue letters that read, "Next Year Finally Came!" I got the newspaper and had it framed for Paul and it's hanging proudly in our den! Please excuse the flash in the picture, I'm a musican not a photographer!
GO RED SOX'S! LET'S DO IT AGAIN THIS YEAR!

"SUMMER, RACHEL AND CAROLYN GETTING READY TO PERFORM"

What precious faces! These students are rehearsing for our "Songs of May Party." Of course it's difficult for them to keep a straight face since we all have so much fun here at "Little House of Music!" Music is supposed to be fun and believe me they have fun! I guess I should say, we have fun because I'm a big kid!
Pictured from left to right are: Miss Summer, Miss Rachel and Miss Carolyn. They are so cute and all three of them have become "Ham's!" They love to be "STAR'S!"
Miss Summer is playing a classical song, "Ode To Joy" by Beethoven, Miss Rachel is playing "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes", the most beautiful Disney song ever, and Miss Carolyn is also playing a classical song, "Morning Song" by Grieg. Our students have class! YOU GO GIRLS! I Love You all.

"RAVEN'S NEW PIANO-IT'S SIGNED"

Just take a look at my student Raven's new piano! Isn't she precious and how about the piano being signed. Yes, signed by two different people. They found out that one of the signatures was of a Broadway star! Very Cool!
Raven is getting ready to preform at our "Songs of May Party," I hope! Raven is playing the "Can Can" for our show. She even has her song memorized.
You go Raven and enjoy that wonderful piano.

Here is another new song to teach your "Star" to sing to the melody of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star!"

Jell-o, jell-o in my dish, in my mouth it's fun to swish.

"SONGS OF MAY PARTY"-"MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

Today is our last day of rehearsing for our "Songs of May Party." So far so good! Each and every student is prepared and ready to go! In the past we always had a Christmas Party but with Christmas such a busy time for all we decided to have our annual party of our "STARS" in May. Also, I will have to admit that after years and years I've just about have had it with "Jingle Bells!" I bet I have heard that song at least a million times!
Yesterday while rehearsing for our party, one of my boy students introduced himself, told his age, his grade in school, and what song is was going to play for everyone, and then he said very clearly and very loudly, "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" It was very cute and he never did tell me if he said it on purpose or it just slipped out! Coaching children is a pleasure and you just never know what they will say next!

"SOME CAT INFORMATION"

DID YOU KNOW?
If a cat's meowing, it's for you! Adult cats don't meow to communicate with each other, they meow to talk to their humans. And this usually means they want your attention.

A cat's ear can turn from one side to the other! Cat's use 12 muscles in each ear to move them, and have 30 total muscles in each ear!

If you have a cat, you know it can make some strange noises! Cats can make around 100 different kinds of sounds!
Very interesting!

"JUST LOOK AT THIS FACE, THIS MARVELOUS FACE!"

Meet my Natalie Coral. Isn't she "Lovely"? I think they wrote that song just for her! Please take note of the sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes. She is a very sweet child and never gets in trouble and certainly is not spoiled!!!!!!!!!
This picture was taken at her brother Braden's graduation yesterday. Natalie is my precious little three year old granddaughter. Natalie and Grammy are buddies! She loves to swim in Grammy and Pops pool and is getting very good at swimming. This summer Natalie will start taking Little House of Music. It's time for her to become a "STAR!" After all she'll soon be four!
I am truly blessed to have three wonderful healthy grandchildren with the fourth on the way.
Enjoy her smile!

"MISS G GUEST SPEAKER AT KAWANIS CLUB"

I had heard of the Kiwanis Clubs all of my life but never really knew what all they did. I was honored when I was asked to be a guest speaker May 20, 2008 for the Kiwanis Club in Titusville, Florida. When I first saw the literature and heard what all they were working on I knew I found a new home. The Kiwanis Motto: "Kiwanis is a global organization for volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time."
All I needed to see were those two words "One Child" and I was ready to join.
The above picture is of me in the middle with Karen Johnson and on left and President Nancy Oliver on the right.
I spoke about my music career and children. After all, I am music and I'm a kid person! I brought to their attention the great need for every private music teacher across America to be fingerprinted, a background check done on them and a state license to make sure they are qualified to be a private music teacher and are safe for our children to be around. As of this date there are no regulations for private music teachers, teaching millions of our children every day across the USA! Unbelievable isn't it? Parents just assume that all of the above checks are taken care of in each state. Not True! I'm completely overwhelmed by the lack of our governments involvement with this issue. I have written to every Senator, Representative, even the Governor of our great state of Florida. The best I have heard so far is that they will try and get it in the 2008 registration session! How very thoughtful of them when are children are at great risk, not to mention the parents who pay a private teacher for lessons who are not even qualified to teach music! I also have written to Fox news, CNN, The John Walsh Foundation just to name a few. No response from anyone!
I will never stop until this issue is settled, we must make everything a safe place for our children. The above checks are done for ball coaches, at recreation centers, just about everything a child does they are protected except for private music lessons. We all know the importance of music education for our children. Let's work together and not only will our children be safe they will be aiding their formal education by learning music.
I'd love to hear your comments on this issue.

"JUST LOOK AT MY HANDSOME GRANDSON!"

This morning was my grandson Braden's graduation from Kindergarten, Picture on the left. He completed his first year in school with flying colors, "HONOR ROLL!" I can't even remember kindergarten let alone a graduation. Isn't it great what our schools do for our children of today! They make the children feel great every step of the way. They had a huge special display of all the children's artwork, Braden's special artwork in the middle and the honor roll was published for all to see, picture on the right! All the children sang a special song for their graduation day. Hat's off to my Grandson's school. How special they make every child feel. I wish every child in the world could feel this good about themselves. When I took pictures of Braden, he was proud, very proud of himself and his accomplishments. Every child should feel this way about themselves. Needless to say, this is one PROUD Grammy! I hope you all get to experience what I did this morning.
Enjoy!

"THE FIRST 9 OF 42 ARE READY!"

Yesterday, my Monday "STARS" all rehearsed for our "Songs of May Party." First they all spoke into the microphone and introduced themselves and said what songs they were going to play and told a little about themselves. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to speak into a microphone in front of an audience? Students who are never quiet clam up the minute they have the microphone in their hand!
Then my Monday "STARS" headed for the piano and every one of them played their songs perfectly. The terrible part of being a piano coach is to know your students can play their song perfectly and then they goof at our party! It just breaks my heart for them. They have all been taught to continue to play when they make a mistake and the only two people who will know they goofed are them and me, well, maybe the parents! If they stop and correct their mistake everyone in the room will know they goof. Here at Little House of Music it is OK to goof! We take the no one is perfect approach.
Yesterday the songs I heard went from rock and roll to classical. I told my students to choose the song they wanted to play, not one I wanted to hear.
Can't wait to hear the next round of students today! I'll keep you posted so stay tuned in!

"HEX SIGNS"

The Pennsylvania "Hex Signs" are hung at front doors, eave's of homes and barns in Pennsylvania. They are all "GOOD LUCK" signs. So many people think the word "Hex" means something bad, but all the Hex signs in Pennsylvania mean all good things shall come to all who hang a hex sign for one reason or another. There are many different hex signs that mean many different things. Example: Good Luck, Welcome, Good Harvest and Love and Romance just to name a few. Being born and raised in the Pennsylvania Dutch area I have three Hex signs at our home here in Florida and I have nothing but GOOD LUCK!
For more information on the Hex Signs go to:

"OUR FLORIDA SEA COW'S-THE MANATEE'S"

How lucky we are here to have the "Manatee's" as are neighbors. They are huge and so exciting to see. They are also called "Sea Cow's" because they are so big.
Range of the West Indian Manatee: the Florida manatee is generally confined to Florida, with a summer range along the U.S. coast and west along the gulf coast.
Habitat: Manatee's live in shallow water (5 feet to 19 feet) freshwater brackish water and saltwater. They enjoy water that is warmer than 68 degrees Fahrenheit and cannot live for a sustained time in water cooler than 61 degrees.
Relatives: The Manatee's closest relative is the elephant.
Age: It is believed that manatee's are capable of living 60 years or more. Snooty, a manatee living in South Florida Museum in Bradenton, was born in 1948.
Size: Females tend to be larger than males. Adults weigh 1,200 pounds to 3,500 pounds. They are from 6 to 13 feet in length.
Who was here first: Fossils indicate that manatee ancestors were in the Florida area about 45 million years ago. Modern manatee's have been around for more than a million years. Humans reached Florida during the last ice age, about 10,000 to 15,000 years ago.
Hot Water: If the water gets too hot in the summer here in Florida it can kill the manatees.
Boaters: Cause the most deaths and injuries to our Manatee's.
VERY INTERESTING! ENJOY!

A BELGIUM BIRTHDAY CAKE

This is a first for me! I've gotten to see what a Belgium Birthday Cake looks like. This is a picture of my Lore's birthday cake this year. Lore loves musicals and her Mother had her cake made with the title from one of the latest musicals Lore has seen. Elisabeth! Lore goes to Germany and France to see musicals. I think that is so cool! Very few of us will ever get to see a birthday cake from Belgium so I wanted to share the photo with you. It certainly looks delicious, all that wonderful fruit. I could eat a big piece right this very minute!

"LITTLE HOUSE OF BIRDS!"

Out front of the home of "Little House of Music" there is now a "Little House of Birds! My student Madison gave the bird house to me for my birthday. What an appropriate gift! I really do pay attention to all of my students, what they are playing, saying and doing but now I also can watch every species and color of birds while I'm teaching. I'm now a piano coach/bird watcher!
I have really enjoyed the bird house. See the white spot on the top of the bird house? Well, the birds use it not only to eat from!!!
Thanks again Madison. It's the best gift you could have picked out for me and my birds!

"DANCING FOUR O'CLOCK'S CD"

While writing songs for my new CD I came up this a beautiful melody but no title. The entire CD was finished except for the title to this one song. No title for months! It was just about to drive me crazy when out of the blue one day the title came to me. I was watering my flowers in my front yard and there was a lovely breeze, I started to water my favorite flowers, my four o'clocks, they smell similar to honey suckle. I just stood there and watched as they danced back and forth, fast and slow with the breeze. I finally got it! Dancing Four O'Clocks! The title was perfect for the unnamed song because the melody, swayed back and forth and the song gets slow and than gets faster. I ran in the house and grab my camera and the pictures you see on my CD cover are of my four o'clock flowers. It was well worth the wait, I named the CD "Dancing Four O'Clocks!" That song is now the title cut and is first on my CD. If you wait and our patience enough, every thing will eventually come your way.

"MEET BUBBA COCONUT!"

When you enter the front door at Little House of Music you get to see Bubba Coconut! He wears different hats according to time of the year. He has his straw hat on now because it's spring and yard work time! I don't want him to get too much sun!
Bubba Coconut is a long time friend of our family. He was originally my Uncle Henry's but was passed down to me because I now live in Florida. Uncle Henry lived in Pennsylvania when he received Bubba from a good friend in Florida over 30 years ago. Bubba is getting old! By the way, I was born on my Uncle Henry's birthday, March 21st and he and I were real buddies!
Bubba is just one more thing that makes coming to your music lesson at Little House of Music fun!
Isn't Bubba precious?

"SONGS OF MAY PARTY"

We are very busy here at Little House of Music. Every one's fingers are flying all over the piano keyboard getting ready to perform at our "Songs of May Party." Each student gets to play the songs of their choice. At Little House of Music our students learn music the fun way. NO recitals, only parties! Also our students at Little House of Music never practice the piano! Practice is a no-no word! We play the piano at Little House of Music because playing is so much more fun than practicing the piano, the word practice sounds like work, but playing is "FUN!" Our motto is "Where Children Learn Music the Fun Way!" Everything just goes better when you are having fun, laughing and smiling.
On our website you will get to see our students at our "Songs of May Party" and also you will get to hear their songs. We only have "Stars" here at Little House of Music so tune in to our website and see and hear our "Stars."

MISS G GOES INTERNATIONAL!

Hi Everyone!!

I think that most of you read the true story "Lore, the Power of One Song" in the January newsletter and Miss G’s blogs. As you seen and heard, Miss Georgia wrote a beautiful song for her sister Lore, to celebrate her 32 years of life.
Well, I found the song "Lore"on the Internet while seaching to see what my name meant. Those who have read the story can conclude that I’m Lore from Belgium. Nice to meet you all!
Georgia and I got connected because of music. I love all her songs and to me she really is the best pianist ever! Georgia asked me if I wanted to learn and play the piano. That question made me think. Can I really learn it?
Well, I decided to do it, but now you’ll think ‘how’? A fair question, I was in Belgium, and Georgia was in Florida. Talk about distance...
Georgia was so kind to send me music books. She already sent me 2 packages before with beautiful things in them and now the books. She even sent me the book with notes of “Beauty and the Beast”, gosh, I love those songs.
Georgia and I usually talk every Saturday or Sunday on the phone. Last time, I played all the songs she gave me for my lesson. She teaches me to play the piano over the phone! The music notes fly from her phone in the USA to my phone in Belgium! Miss G told me to practice the C scale 5,000 times a week! I bet she told that to you to! Gosh, I like it: Miss G really goes international!!! She is teaching me to play the piano. How cool!

So, I hope I’ll get to meet you some day, when I come to visit! If you have questions, you can always mail me: lore_thoelen@pandora.be

Kisses,
Lore from Belgium

MY SON CHRIS WITH LORE AND HER MOTHER IN BELGIUM

Hi, this is Miss G with Little House of Music. The picture is of my son, Chris meeting my Lore and her mother in Belgium. Lore's mother Simoon on left, Chris in the middle and Lore on the right. What a handsome trio! How wonderful, he got to meet our family in Belgium! I've never been to Belgium but hopefully will visit soon. My son, Chris is a sports agent for track and field. He has been to every county in the world that we are allowed to enter! What a great experience for him not to mention the education he has gotten from visiting all over the world. He will be in China for the Olymics this summer. Chris played all kinds sports while growing up, "Plus of course the Piano!" His favorite was track so off to college he went on a track scholarship and the rest is history. He and his partner have their own company and represent over 100 track and field athletes. I am very proud of him, the only problem this mom has is every time he gets on an airplane I hold my breath until he is safely home.
All you kids out there reading this, keep in mind, running on a track team will help you in every other sport you play! "Be Fast!"

"A STAR IS BORN: LOUIS IN CONCERT"

Meet "Mr. Louis" our own "Star!'
Louis brought the house down when he sang, Mr. Quarter Note from Little House of Music at our Little House of Music Concert.
"Mr. Quarter Note, like a balloon , on a stick, kind of like a lollipop, that you might like to lick. He's always dressed in black and he only gets one beat, every time all you kids are tap-tap-tapping on your feet!"
Next we have Louis rapping at the concert to our "I'm Drug Free" song, no, no, no, no, no, drugs for me! You go Louis! Louis is also a member of the Little House of Music band, "Marching Into Music." Isn't he precious playing his little wooden flute!
Louis was born French Canadian and has just recently became a citizen of the good old USA. Welcome Louis. I have been teaching Louis since he was four. At age four he took Little House of Music and then went into private piano lessons. Now he is twelve and is playing "The Pink Panther" at our "Songs of May Party." Louis has always been a excellent student and just recently passed his theory quiz with flying colors! By the way, Louis is not the one that had his theory book stolen!
Louis parents, Norman and Rosemary are wonderful parents and have not only given Louis the opportunity to learn and be a part of many different activities they are always the first parents that ask if they can help out in anyway. Louis and his family are members of my family and Louis is like my very own son! Louis is a pleasure to teach every week! He has learned music the fun way! We do laugh a lot at lessons!
I Love You Louis, "You Shine and you make me Shine!"

"ZAP THE MOSQUITO'S"

This really does work. Get a bottle of the yellow Listerine mouth wash, the less expensive store brand also works! Pour it into a spray bottle and spray all around where ever you are and I promise, no mosquito's will come near you. Have you ever tasted that stuff! It also works for other bugs. Give this a try this summer and enjoy being outside!
An Enjoy Being Outside Tip From: Miss G Little House of Music

MISS G's STUDENT GETS ROBBED!

THIS IS SO CUTE. THIS ONE TAKES THE CAKE!
One day one of my students raced in the door for his piano lessons and ran up to me and said, "Miss G our house was robbed!" I gave him a big hug and told him how sorry I was that this happened to their family. I then asked him if they caught whomever robbed them, and he said, "No." Then I asked him what the robbers took from their house, I almost feel on the floor when he answered me and I could hardly keep a straight face, "Miss G, the only thing they took was my Theory Book!"
Everyone of my students has their own written theory book and they must do the pages assigned to them each week. I always have problems with this student getting his theory pages done! Sometimes he has to do them at class!
Well, he wasn't going to get away with this one so I just went to my music books and pulled out a brand new theory book for him and said, "I know how upset you are about your theory book being taken so I'll give you a new one and you can start the book all over again!" He said to me, "No, Miss G, I can't take a new one of your new theory books, that wouldn't be right!" Well, I insisted that he take it and consider it a gift from me to him! He took the theory book and didn't say anything more about it and we went on with his lesson. The next week in came racing in the door again and this time he said, "Miss G, they didn't take my theory book, my Mom found it behind the piano!" He handed me the new one I gave him and said, "lucky me, now I don't have to do all that theory over again!"
When children understand theory it aids them tremendously in playing the piano. They understand why they are playing what they are playing. They know how many beats to give each note, they learn the dynamics of music. Every child studying music should have their very own theory book, or in some cases two theory books!
The student I'm telling you about has now taken lessons from me for eight years and now he doesn't just play the piano, he is a pianist!
Music theory is the field of study that deals with the mechanics of music and how music works. It involves identifying patterns that govern composers' techniques. In a more general sense, music theory also often distills and analyzes the elements of music – rhythm, harmony (harmonic function), melody, structure, form, and texture. Broadly, theory may include any statement, belief, or conception of or about music (Boretz, 1995). People who study these properties are known as music theorists. Borrowed from: Wikipedia

PLATO ONCE SAID......................

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and lends to all that is good and just and beautiful"

How did Plato know? Miss G Little House of Music

'IF I COULD'..........

I would teach each child to be positive, to smile, to love and be loved.

I would teach each child to take time to observe some miracle of nature--the song of a bird, the beauty of a snowflake, the orange glow of a winter sunset.

I would teach each child to feel warmly about the peers for whom the task of learning does not come easily.

I would teach each one to be kind to all living creatures and to crowd out of their lives feelings of guilt, misunderstanding and lack of compassion.

I would teach each child that it is OK to show their feelings by laughing, crying or touching someone they care about.

Everyday I would have each child feel special and, through my actions, each one would know how much I really care.

If I could, I would: Miss G Little House of Music

DO YOU KNOW THAT?

Mathematics and music have a strange connection. Music is the only art form, where the form and the medium are the same. Mathematics is the only science where the methods and the subject are the same. Mathematics is the study of mathematics using mathematics. Music is only created and experienced as music. Thus there is a natural connection between mathematics and music: both are experienced as pure objects of the brain and both have a meaning outside of the brain only by artificial connection.
The first person to make the connection between math and music was Pythagoras of Samos, a famous philosopher and cult leader. Among his claims to fame is the oldest known proof of what we call the "Pythagorean Theorem." He also was the first to believe in the idea that mathematics is everywhere. At the time, music was not as complicated as it is today. The Greek octave had a mere five notes. To hear the Greek octave and other octave scales or to learn more about Pythagoras go to:

"NAME MISS G'S KITTEN'S CONTEST"

MEET SUZIE AND SONNY, SUZIE FRONT RIGHT, SONNY BACK LEFT!
AREN'T THEY JUST PRECIOUS?
At Little House of Music we have all kinds of fun contests. We had so much fun with "Name Miss G's Kitten's Contest!" This contest started after my best friend Pumpkin passed away. I had her for over 14 years. My husband and I went to the Vets to get our boy cats, Patch and Squirt their yearly shots right after Pumpkin left us. I'm sitting in the waiting room at the Vets and of course I'm talking to everyone about their pets and declaring "I will never get another pet as long as I live!" It's too hard when you lose them. A few minutes later it was our turn to see the Vet. When we got in the room Dr. Fuller said to me, Georgia go look in the next room at the bottom cage! Well I did, and there were two all white precious kittens a brother and a sister. I got one out and walked into the other room to show my husband Paul, this darling blue eyed white kitten. Dr. Fuller said it was a girl and I could have her but I've have to take both of them! Paul knowing how very unset I was with the loss of Pumpkin said, "If you want them you can have them." I went back to the cage and picked up the boy, and that did it, I feel in love with both of them immediately! So, within twenty minutes I was never getting another pet but walked out of the Vets with two new pets!
So, the next Monday the contest began, name the kitten's! My students came up with most wonderful names, cute names, hundred's of names that I was totally confused! One of the last students to pick names came up with Suzie and Sonny the twins, two of my characters in Little House of Music. Although in Little House of Music the twins "Suzie and Sonny" are the group of two black notes and the kittens were white that was it! So Suzie and Sonny it was! The winner Summer Gayden won money plus five things out of the prize basket for picking those names. Why didn't I think to name them from Little House of Music characters? Suzie and Sonny have been so much fun. Brother and sister playing together, sleeping together. Paul and I would rather watch them then anything on TV! Paul calls Suzie the blue eyed devil! They are so sweet and purr all the time. Suzie should work in a hair salon, she kneads my hair every morning when she thinks I should be up. Some morning my hair is in dreadlocks!
Thank you Dr. Fuller for giving us two new baby's to love.

"THE BRIDGE"

How the "BRIDGE" became the bridge! This is very funny!
In our front yard we have this huge tree and the huge tree was causing us problems because the huge tree roots were breaking up our concrete walkway to our front porch. Well one day my husband Paul and I are out there discussing what we should do about the problem. I was afraid if we dug up the sidewalk and put a new one in the roots from the huge tree would get damaged and the tree would die. I just couldn't have that. After about 15 minutes I looked at my husband Paul and said, "Let's just build a bridge!" I wish so much that I had a picture of the expression on his face when he looked at me!!!! Paul said, A Bridge! I said, "it would be so neat to have a bridge!" As Paul walked back inside our home he was shaking his head. Being married to me is one surprise after another! I made some calls and in two weeks we had our "Bridge!" It has been so much fun. Little children taking walks with their parents just love to walk over the bridge. Everyone loves it. Next, we will have a fountain and maybe a pond with gold fish, who knows what I may come up with next!
Miss G Little House of Music

"MR. SPIRIT MAN"

Mr. Spirit man overlooks my cactus garden and takes excellent care of my cactus at night while I'm sleeping. Isn't he cute? He actually is only a painted piece of bark from a tree on a stick but of course I just had to have him! Both sides of our bridge that goes to our front porch is filled with all kinds of exciting things my students put there! We have snakes, frogs, one alligator, birds, turtles, coconuts, seashells, coral, just to name a few! Of course none of snakes or the alligator are real! My students decorate both sides of our bridge every time they come to lessons. They rearrange things and have so much fun with the "Bridge Stuff" as I call it.
Madison was in charge of the cactus garden where Mr. Spirit Man lives. Madison is moving to Hawaii in June, I won't have her anymore but I'll see her every time I look at my cactus garden. Boy will I ever miss her!
Music lessons are supposed to be fun, my students have fun before they get inside to take their lessons. I love my students!

"LORE AND FAMILY COME TO THE USA TO VISIT"

ISN'T MY NEW "LORE" BEAUTIFUL?
In one of the older post I wrote the story about "The Power of One Song." My E-mail from Lore in Belgium asking me why I wrote a song named "Lore?" Last summer she and her family came to visit us for two weeks from Belgium. We had only ever talked on the phone and had never met. Both of our families were nervous, after all they were coming to a strange country for the first time and staying with strangers and we were having company from Belgium for two weeks staying at our home that we have never met! From the minute we hugged at Orlando airport we became family. I personally had the best two weeks of my life. They loved Florida and we took them everywhere we could take them in the two weeks they were here. Lore's mother and I are true friends, we spoke Yesterday on the phone to wish each other Happy Mother's Day. While they were hear Simoone and I became coffee buddies. We talked and talked and talked about everything every morning while on the patio sitting at the table with our coffee! Lore's brother was the most wonderful young man. He was are "Program Director" for two weeks. He planned what time we would leave the house to go everywhere we went. He was so much fun and very funny. Lore and I couldn't get enough of time together. It was so wonderful to get to hug her every morning and every night. It was a fairy tale that became true. Lore and I E-mail constantly and talk on the phone at least once a week. Lore is now 18 and is going to college in the fall in Belgium. Now it's my turn to go to Belgium! I think I'll just show up at their home someday in a big box! That would be so much fun. Thank heavens they all spoke English because I surely don't know dutch! I loved to hear them speak to each other in there language. I wish there were here with me today so we could float in the pool together and laugh like we did last summer. I miss them, they are now officially part of my family and I love them and loved every minute I got to spend with them. Isn't this a cool story? All because of one song I wrote I now have a new family in Belgium.

MEET "BOBBY BACH"

I bet you could have guessed by now that I'm the type of person who gives everything a name. Well meet "Bobby Bach!" I just recently purchased him so the cars slow down in the street in front of our home. All of my students get out of their cars in front of our home and I hope "Bobby Bach" slows down the cars coming down my street going to the soccer fields, library, dog park and skateboard park. I have asked a million times at least to please have a stop sign put at the corner where I live but so far NO stop sign so I brought my "Bobby Bach!" He is helping a lot. He is so precious you have to notice him and slow down! I must keep my students safe!

"MADISON YOU GO! MISS 4.0"

"ISN'T SHE LOVELY?"
Madison, how very proud we all are of you! I guess if you get a 4.0 grade average means you are perfect! Well, I think you are!
Not only did Madison get an award from DeLaura Middle School at their 2008 Awards Ceremony for two perfect years of perfect grades I wish everyone could hear Madison play the piano. I do think in the future you all will get the chance to hear Madison play when her first CD comes out! Madison is blessed with the "GIFT" of music. Her ears must always be perked up! Not only in the classroom but with her musical talent. Madison is the most advanced Theory student I teach. Madison doesn't just play the piano she is a "Pianist!"
Every once in a while I find a student who becomes my friend. Madison at age 13 and Miss G age ? are best of friends. Not only do we have fun at the piano, we plant flowers, get ice cream from the ice cream truck plus of course go shopping together.
It has been my pleasure to teach, be friends and to know Madison. She is another one of the great children of today! Remember, behind every GREAT child are GREAT parents!
The only place Madison will ever go is up, up, up the latter of success and I also know that where ever she may be we will be together and will always stay in touch.
Again Madison, "CONGRATULATIONS" on a job well done.
Love and a million hugs, Miss G Little House of Music

"MISS G PLAYED THE MAGNIFICENT TANNENBERG AT YORK"

David Tannenberg was born March 21, 1728, in Upper Lusatia, a former region of eastern Germany. At the age of 21 he came to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he became an apprentice to Johann Klemm, a famous organ builder. After Klemm's death in 1762 Tannenberg moved to Lititz, Pennsylvania, where he built organs for mor than forty years.
Tannenberg constructed thirty-four organs for churches as far afield as Albany, New York, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His thirty-fifth church organ - built for Christ Lutheran Church in York - was his last, and the famed Pennsylvania organ maker did not live to see it completed.
While tuning the York Tannenberg, David Tannenberg suffered a stoke, fell from the scaffolding in Christ Church, and died three days later on May 19. 1804. The York organ was first played formally at his funeral service, and Tannenberg was buried in York.
The organ is now in the York Historical Society in York, Pennsylvania where as a teenager I had the honor of playing it every Saturday morning. We gave tours of Colonial York and that was our last stop, the York Historical Society.
The organ was only allowed to be played ten minutes a week as to preserve it. What a honor for me to have had the opportunity to play the last organ David Tannenberg ever built. My music would bellow all over the city on Saturday mornings.
It's hard for me to explain how I felt sitting on that organ bench and playing his organ that he never got to play!
I was also born on his birthday, March 21st. Maybe he and Bach both send me melodies!

"MUSIC MAKES THE ELDERLY HEALTHIER"

"Music making makes the elderly healthier...There were significant decreases in anxiety, depression and loneliness following keyboard lessons. These are factors critical in coping with stress, stimulating the immune system and in improved health. Results also show significant increases in human growth hormones following the same group keyboard lessons. (Human growth hormone is implicated in aches and pains.)"...Dr. Frederick Tims

MUSIC INCREASES SUCCESS IN DEVELOPIING INTELLIGENCE!

A McGill University study found that pattern recognition and mental representation scores improved significantly for students given piano instruction over a three year period. They also found that self-esteem and musical skills measures were improved for the students given piano instruction.

A University of California (Irvine) study showed that after eight months of keyboard lessons, children showed a 46% boost in their spatial reasoning IQ.

I wish every child in the world could have the opportunity to have piano lessons.

YOU GO SHAUN!

Hat's off to my student Shaun. From the first time I met Shaun in was in the Boy Scouts of America, now he is an Eagle Scout candidate. What a honor for Shaun. The boy scouts of America is a marvelous program for our young boys. By the looks of his uniform he has gotten every badge they give out! I sure hope he has his music badge!
Shaun just received "Certificate of Appreciation" from the Mayor of Melbourne, FL. Fourteen year old Shaun refurbished the pond at the Florida Historical Society Roesch House in Melbourne, FL and it looks absolutely beautiful. You go Shaun! I have always known you were a very special young man. How thoughtful of you to give your time and energy to make our Historical Society look more pleasant for all to see.
All we ever hear about are the bad things teenagers do. I think we need a special TV station just for all the good things our teenagers do. I think all of us adult Americans should stand up clapping and start praising our youth of today. After all they will soon be the one's taking care of us!
Keep up the great work Shaun. I'm very, very proud of you.

HOW TRUE THIS IS..........

"When children can make music themselves, it is doubly valuable to them because it becomes a means of self-expression. We are not concerned so much with 'What children will do in music' as we are with "What music may do in children.' The child that has found fun in making music will not make mischief. The girl that plays the piano does not pick your pocket: the boy that draws the bow is not the boy that draws the gun."

How Very True! Miss G Little House of Music

THE MYSTERY OF MUSIC

From the perspective of cognitive science, music is one of the most bizarre and fascinating aspects of human culture because the origin of music is unknown. Music as we all know is universal and is found in every culture past and present. It is Incorporated into most cultural events including weddings, funerals, religious services, dances and sporting events, as well as solitary listening sessions. Music can evoke many different emotions and stands in sharp contrast to most other enjoyable human behaviors, such as eating, sleeping, talking, etc., in that it yields no obvious physical benefits to those who partake of it. Despite the central role in human culture, the origins and adaptive function of music remain virtually a complete mystery. Where did music come from? The evolutionary origins of music have puzzled scientists and philosophers since the time of Darwin (1871) . Is music an innate evolutionary process unique to humans?

"IF IT WASN'T FOR MY MOTHER"

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
I couldn't sing my ABC’s
I wouldn’t know 2 was less than 3
All of my friends wouldn’t have me
If it wasn’t for my mother

I couldn't bend to tie my shoe
I wouldn’t know red wasn’t blue
You’d never see me smile for you
If it wasn’t for my mother

My mother said it was a miracle
when she got me
But I believe she’s the miracle that
was given to me

I couldn’t chase butterflies
I wouldn’t see rainbows in the sky
You’d never hear me ask you why
If it wasn’t for my mother

I couldn’t spray Daddy’s cologne
I wouldn’t run to answer the phone
I’d never lick an ice cream cone
If it wasn’t for my mother

My mother said it was a miracle
when she got me
But I believe she’s the miracle that
was given to me

I couldn’t pick flowers in May
I wouldn’t have important things to
say
Just think – I’d never have a
birthday
If it wasn’t for my mother

Thanks Mommy
I love you Mommy
Hey Mom – I love you
Mom, I’m talking to you
Mom, are you listening to me?

"A NEW WEBSITE FOR LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC"

EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT! YESTERDAY THE CLEF'S STARTED TO BUILD THEIR NEW HOME! LITTLE HOUSE OF MUSIC.
http://www.littlehouseofmusic.com/
Our whole family is very excited. Our new home should be done in a week, we hope! It is a much bigger job than we ever expected! Just getting all the materials was a nightmare! We needed ten lines and eight spaces for our home the Grand Staff. The lines weren't the problem, can anyone tell me where I can get 8 spaces when spaces are really nothing? We needed curved wood for Brother Brace, the brace line, that will keep us joined together, lots of exactly straight pieces of wood for the bar lines or walls in the our new home not to mention putting two absolutely straight pieces of wood for the two lines at the end of our home or the double bar lines. Have you ever tried to hammer two pieces of wood so closely together. I was about to say Fine at that job! Fine means "The End" by the way!
Who ever in the world came up with the shape for my wife Miss Treble Clef. Don't get me wrong I love her shape, now I'll be in big trouble with her! We have twisted and turned, curved and cut out the wood to make her look perfect. Thank heavens I wasn't that difficult, I'm Mr. Bass Clef, yes, this really is me!
It's always the women that are difficult!!! It took our first born, Sweet Candy, Middle C four hours just to pick out the perfect color of pink for her carpet in her new room in the treble clef where all the girls rooms are. The only other problem we had was to find a bed big enough for Cowboy George our ninth child better known as "G" in the bass clef where all the boys rooms are. See; the girls are high sounds so their rooms are upstairs in the treble clef and the boys are low sounds so they live in the bass clef. All this work and then you must put all ten children to bed after a long hard day! We Clef's are very tired to say the least!
I have written a new song for when we are finished building our new home. "Never say the clef's aren't clever, when they decorated they had it together, they put a bar line between and after each measure, never say the Clef's aren't clever!" I'm so tired I must be getting silly!
Anyway, everyone in the whole wide world is WELCOME to visit our new home very soon. We love company and we'd love to hear what you think of our new home so comments are most welcome! Visit us often and bring all your children to play games with our ten children. We will have lots of games for all the kids to play. At our home, Little House of Music we are all about learning to love music and having fun with music, after all we are music!
We'll be looking forward to seeing you all very soon. Until then keep playing your songs and sing as though no one can hear you!
Love to all, Mr. Bass Clef!

"ANOTHER STAR IS BORN--MISS HALLIE"

I have been blessed many times over, to be so lucky to enjoy my life's work. How lucky to know that special feeling a Doctor must feel when they save a life, or relieve someone of pain. I know that feeling but I'm not a Doctor. I have the opportunity to take a child and teach them to become a "Star!" A "Star" that shines so brightly. How very wonderful it is to watch a child be proud of themselves and watch them reach for the star's until they can finally touch them.
Yesterday that happened to me, I earned another million dollars! I'm now a multi-trillionaire! My piano student, Hallie that I have coached for years made her debut yesterday. She played the piano for others for three hours. She walked right in and sat down on the piano bench like she has been doing this for years! Hallie warmed the hearts of many yesterday with her extraordinary talent on the piano. Lots of people can play the piano but few like Hallie can play a song and fill it with her own emotions, dynamics and love. She is also blessed because she has the "Gift" of music in every inch of her being. Her precious fingers make people smile, sing praises, applaud and enjoy music like it was meant to enjoy. Her fingers only play the music she feels in her heart.
At the ripe old age of 16, Hallie now has a steady job every Sunday playing for strangers while they enjoy their delicious meal. You Go Girl! I know that every bite everyone took yesterday tasted better because they heard the beautiful music that Hallie played.
Hallie is also the Jazz pianist for her high school Jazz band, she teaches beginner students for Little House of Music and teaches Little House of Music group lessons by my side every week. What a wonderful career she has before her. Like me, she'll enjoy her life's work for the rest of her life.
I Love You Hallie and I'm So Very Proud of You!

"WHAT IS MUSIC?"

Webster's Dictionary defines music as: "The art and science of combining vocals and or instrument sounds or tones in varying melody, harmony, rhythm and timbre, especially so as to form structurally complete and emotionally expressive compositions."

I define music as: "The art of combining sounds to express love, sounds of varying pitch to produce smiles, compositions to enjoy and add dance to, pleasing sounds to sing along with, therapy from life's trials, the universal language of peace, and finally sunshine in the darkness."

"MUSICAL QUOTATIONS"

Musical quotations published in the early 1900's by National Bureau For The Advancement Of Music, 45 West 45Th street, New York City:

"Music washes from the soul the dust of everyday life" Auerbach
"Music is a kind of inarticulate, unfathomable speech, which leads us to the edge of the infinite, and impels us for a moment to gaze into it." Carlyle
"Music is the medicine of the breaking heart." Leigh Hunt
"Music is love in search of a word." Sidney Lanier
"My heart, which is full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary." Martin Luther
"There is no music in a rest, but there is the making of music in it. In our whole life-melody the music is broken off here and there by 'rests', and we foolishly think we have come to the end of the tune." Ruskin
"Music is a moral law, it gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything else. It is the essence of order and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful." Plato

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SISTER LORE"

Today was my sister Lore's birthday. Her favorite flower was the yellow rose. In honor of her birthday I am going to plant a new yellow rose bush in my front yard today. Then I am going to take one single yellow rose with me to the beach and throw it into the Atlantic ocean. I will talk to her before I throw the rose into the ocean. If anyone sees me or hears me talking to no one I'll probably end up in the mental ward!
I'm so trilled to have had her in my life for 32 years. Wish you all could have known Lore. It was because of her that I wrote my first song. Lore said, "let's write a song!" So I wrote a melody and she titled it and wrote the lyrics and that's how my whole life's career started as a songwriter, from one song my sister and I wrote together. The song is called "Rainy Heart" and it is on my Dancing Four O'clock CD. Lore had the beautiful voice and I had the gift of music in my fingers. We were quite the team!
This December 14Th she will be gone for 33 years. 33 years of not having my only sister Lore. For all of those years I have had so many things I remember about the two of us to smile about and for all of those years I have had so many things about the two of us to cry about. I always have so many things to tell her. I just wish I knew she could hear me when I talk to her!
Today I will celebrate her life not her death.
She always said, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade! I'd rather eat a whole lemon marange pie!

"LETS ALL FIGHT FOR THE PIANO"

It's Broadway show writer's day and it's a fight for the piano. All four of us writing the Broadway show songs for "Lyric and Lore" can't wait for each other to hear our new songs we wrote this week. Who will get on the bench first? Will it be Hallie or Madison, Louis or Miss G. We all love to play the piano so much we can't wait to get on the bench and show off!
Of course me being the Piano Coach could just say, "I'm First" but I'd never do that to my wonderful co-writers! I'm so proud of them and we are doing a SUPERB job writing our very first Broadway Show!
I've had to search my computer brain for a week to finally figured out why our "Lyric and Lore" title sounded so familiar to me! Way back when there was a GREAT song writing team "Learner and Lowe!" It only took me a week to figure out why our title sounded so good to my ears!
We'll soon have pictures so stay tuned in!
Have a Great Day! I'm off to the piano bench!

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU DARRIEN"

Today is another special day in my life. Today is my granddaughter Darrien's 14Th birthday! Happy Birthday to my sweet Darrien. Your Grammy Love's You Very Much.
While we are on the subject of "Happy Birthday" I'd like to give you readers some interesting facts about the song "Happy Birthday." "Happy Birthday" is the most sung song in the USA and have been translated from English to many other language. The song is sung for the anniversary of a person's life.
The melody was first written by two sister in 1893 in Louisville Kentucky. Patty and Mildred J Hill were both school teachers and originally wrote the song for their students but then the lyrics were "Good Morning To All!"
The version as we know it today was copyrighted by Summy Company in 1935 as an arrangement by Preston Ware Oren and is scheduled to expires in the year 2030. A copyright spans the life of the author plus 50 years.
In 1990 Warner Chappell purchased the copyright for 15 million dollars. While the status of the song is unclear, Warner claims that unauthorized public performances of the song are technically illegal unless royalties are paid to sing it! It is unknown who wrote the lyrics to "Happy Birthday" that is sung everyday to someone having a birthday all over the world and NO royalties are ever paid!

"BEETHOVEN'S "PRESTO AGITATO" CONTEST"

We are having a "Big Contest" here at Little House of Music. I have given the first page of 12 pages of Beethoven's composition "Presto Agitato" to eight of my students. I also made them a copy of the song on CD.
The first student who can play the first page fast without a mistake wins $20.00. If you are not familiar with the song it is very, very fast and Beethoven was extremely agitated when he composed it.
The song is very difficult to play but I just love to have contest's and challenge my students!
The reason I wrote this in GREEN is because there is money involved!
I'll be back with the winner so stay tuned!

"WHAT ARE THE GRAMMY AWARDS?"

Ever since I was nominated for a Grammy award for "Best Children's Album" (yes, we still call them albums, which is really lots of fun to explain to a kid!) I have so many people ask me what you have to do to submit something to the Grammys. First of all you need to make a CD of your original songs, songs or song and determine which category fits your style of music the best. You then join the Grammys which is really "NARAS", National Academy of Recording Arts and Science. If you have enough songs already published or if you have sung on enough recording you then can be a voting member instead of just a member. A voting member actually votes for the CD's and Artist that win the Grammy. Your peers vote for you.
After you send them your CD and if your CD meets all the requirements you then make it on the ballot. I personally think that is an honor just to make it on the ballot. There are two times a during the year you can submit your work for consideration.
Once you make the ballot then they have the first round of voting, this round determines who the five nominees will be from each category. The second round of voting determines the winner of the Grammy.
If your are a voting member you can vote in eight different category's of your choice plus the big ones like, Best Song of the Year, Best New Artist, etc. I am a voting member and belong to the Florida Chapter of the Grammys. I have been personally told not to solicited votes from other voting member! Why not? Every one who runs for anything campaigns for votes! If you are up against a CD from a big company, forget it! The big company will have the best chance to win. Of course everyone with that big company is going to vote for their artist or songs!
I have a big problem with the way things are run. Example, there is absolutely no way of hearing over 200 hundred CD entries under Best Classical CD. Who in the world can or would buy 200 CD's and have the time to listen to them all to pick the one you think is the best? "It's not how good your CD is, it's who you know that gets you the votes!" When the voting member receives their ballot over the Internet there should be a place to click to hear songs from every CD. I might like a CD for Best Children's music better than one from a big company but unless I go and buy it and listen to it how am I going to know who in the world to vote for? If we didn't have hi-tech everything on our computers and Internet I could understand but when we could just click on a CD to hear it, we could choose who to vote for. I don't understand how being a voting member is of any good use. A little person has almost NO chance of being nominated when you're up against the big companies. Remember we are not supposed to solicited votes! Yea, that's a bunch of you know what!
And about the actual Grammy show. I don't even like it, they don't even let us hear the good songs only the money making songs or see the money making artist. The classical composers are truly the musicians, shouldn't they be what the Grammys are all about. They have studied for years and know much more about music than the Artist who wins the Grammy for Best Artist of the Year! I'd be surprised if one of those money making Big Artist know what key they are singing in! The Grammys are exactly run like the Presidential race is run. Who has the most money or who is more famous is usually the winner. Music comes from our hearts and souls. Music is suppose to sound like music! I bet every year when the Grammy show is on TV all the boys roll over in their graves, Beethoven probably even sits up and cries!

IT'S MAY DAY-A VERY SPECIAL DAY"

May 1, 2008
Not only is today my grandson Braden's 6th birthday, it is also lights off at night in our county in the state of Florida.
It's nesting season for our County Mama Sea Turtles. We keep beachfront lighting turned off during the nesting and hatching season, May 1 until October 31. Ideally, lights should remain off throughout the night during this period. Light sources remaining on until 11PM will still affect about one third of the hatchlings emerging from nests on a given night.
Hatchlings emerging from nests at night are strongly attracted to light sources along the beach. Consequently, the hatchlings move toward streetlights, porch lights or interior lighting visible through windows, and away from the relative sanctuary of the Atlantic ocean.
Hatchlings so misled fail to find their way to the sea, and succumb to attacks by predators, exhaustion, drying in the morning sun , or strikes by automobiles in nearby parking lots and roads. One single light left one near a sea turtle nesting beach can misdirect and kill hundreds of hatchlings. Lights left on can also mislead the females attempting to return to the sea after nesting.
I just love the Sea Turtles, I even have a Sea Turtle license plate! Did you know that a Mama sea turtle will come back to the same place she nested last time even after swimming all over the world. How do they know how to do this? Read up on our fascinating Sea Turtles and learn how to protect them.
